3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Value Plays for Friday 7/30/21

With production being highly variable on a night-to-night basis, daily fantasy baseball plays a bit differently than other sports.

An 0-for-4 dud from a chalky high-salaried slugger is a lot more common than a total dud from a top-salaried NBA player or even than a stinker from a top quarterback or running back.

That means that it's not uncommon for value plays to end up doing the heavy lifting in carrying your lineup. The fact that they can be the difference between a good and a great lineup isn't much different than other sports, but value plays being able to make up for a whiff on a high-salaried play completely is somewhat unique.

Let's get right into it and take a look at the top value options on today's full 15-game main slate.

Logan Gilbert, SP, Seattle Mariners

FanDuel Salary: $8,800

With three aces coming in with five-figure salaries tonight, Logan Gilbert looks like a fantastic pivot as a potential value option.

Over his last nine starts, the Seattle Mariners' rookie has amassed a 2.93 ERA, 2.61 FIP, 30.4% strikeout rate, and 6.0% walk rate. Those are some fantastic numbers. Gilbert has racked up at least 39 FanDuel points in four of his last eight outings, including outputs of 43 and 55 in two of his last three.

Tonight, Gilbert and the M's will have the distinct pleasure of going up against the inept offense of the Texas Rangers. Over the last month, Texas' 68 wRC+ ranks dead last in the majors, per FanGraphs. Oh, and Texas will also now be without their top slugger, Joey Gallo, after they traded him to the New York Yankees.

Other Value Pitcher to Consider: Jameson Taillon ($7,900)

Gregory Polanco, OF, Pittsburgh Pirates

FanDuel Salary: $2,600

If you're looking for a matchup where we could see a lot of hitters bop some dongs, look no further than the Pittsburgh Pirates-Philadelphia Phillies bout tonight. Toeing the rubber for the Buccos will be Wil Crowe, who is ceding a whopping 2.06 homers per nine on the season. The rookie has been a reverse splits pitcher this season, so target any righties with pop in the Philly order.

That said, it's the pitcher opposing Crowe who I want to focus on -- Vince Velasquez. Since 2019, hitters have tagged the 29-year-old to the tune of 1.9 homers per nine frames.

One power bat we can zero in on is Pirates outfielder Gregory Polanco. In 2021, Polanco has amassed a .229 ISO when he's had the platoon advantage.

Over at FanDuel Sportsbook, Polanco is +500 to go deep tonight, if you're into that sort of thing.

Gavin Sheets, 1B, Chicago White Sox

FanDuel Salary: $2,300

Speaking of targeting home runs, Gavin Sheets is in an excellent spot.

The Chicago White Sox will be matched up with Cleveland Indians Guardians right-hander J.C. Mejia. The 24-year-old has accrued a 7.52 ERA this season, and though his peripherals imply that he hasn't been quite that bad, he is certainly worth targeting with opposite-handed bats. This season, lefties have tagged Mejia for .316 average, 1.023 OPS, .429 wOBA, and a whopping 3.13 ding dongs per nine frames. Yikes.

Enter Sheets, who has absolutely brutalized righty hurlers in 2021. In 68 plate appearances with the platoon advantage, Sheets has stockpiled a .997 OPS, .373 ISO, .411 wOBA, and 166 wRC+. That'll play.

And again, if you're looking for a prop to bet, Sheets is +440 to go yard at FanDuel Sportsbook.
