3 Under-the-Radar MLB FanDuel Plays for 6/7/19

When being contrarian in daily fantasy sports, there's a fine line between taking a calculated risk and being reckless. But differentiating your lineups from everyone else is the name of the game if you plan on taking down one of those highly lucrative DFS tournaments. Whether it's because of Vegas totals, other options at a given position, or some gem you've found that everyone is overlooking, we can always find potential under-owned plays if we look hard enough.

Here are three such players to consider branching out for on FanDuel's main slate

Domingo German, P, New York Yankees

FanDuel Price: $8,100

Domingo German is coming off what could be his worst two starts of the season, and that recency bias could keep his ownership low tonight.

Over his last two starts, German has given up 10 earned runs, which is a drastic change for him since over his six starts prior to those two he had a total of 11 earned runs allowed. That is the type of change people notice and might have them stay away when we have a full slate of games. There might be a bit of risk here with that inconsistency, but the matchup for him tonight is almost too good to pass up, since he is up against the Cleveland Indians, who have an 82 wRC+ (26th in the league) and a 23.3% strikeout rate (11th in the league) versus right-handed pitchers.

If this was at any other point in the season before this slight dip in production, German would be expensive and popular tonight. But given the situation we are in now, German should be far lower owned compared to Gerrit Cole, Clayton Kershaw, and Jacob deGrom.

Colin Moran, 3B, Pittsburgh Pirates

FanDuel Price: $2,800

Is Colin Moran one of the best hitters in the league? No. Is he hot right now? Yes.

Moran isn't a household name when it comes to the MLB and that shouldn't be news, but he has four home runs in his last eight games and we are still getting him under $3K, which should be news. The power is there for him right now and over the past two weeks he has a .319 ISO, .429 wOBA, and a 41.2% hard-hit rate. Those are some serious numbers and now the Pittsburgh Pirates are getting a positive park shift, which should help him continue this power surge.

A 3.84 implied run total for the Pirates is nothing to get excited about and with a 14-game slate, the Pirates are likely going to be one of the lower owned teams. He will be up against Brandon Woodruff tonight, who has a 4.42 xFIP, 39.5% fly-ball rate, 40.7% hard-hit rate versus left-handed hitters, along with allowing 1.57 homers per nine. This is an ideal matchup for Moran, who is hot right now, going up against a pitcher who significantly struggles with lefty bats.

Eric Hosmer, 1B, San Diego Padres

FanDuel Price: $2,900

Eric Hosmer didn't have the best start to the season, but he has hits in 11 of his last 14 games and is producing on almost a nightly basis.

The San Diego Padres find themselves at home with a 4.30 implied run total facing off against Erick Fedde, who is a young pitcher and hasn't figured it out yet. Last season in 50.1 innings pitched he posted a .376 wOBA, 11.2% walk rate, 1.21 homers per nine innings, and a low 18.4% strikeout rate versus left-handed hitters.

Fedde has a smaller sample size this year where his numbers are largely the same except for the strikeout rate which has jumped to 24.4%. Everything else is still there for him and that level on inconsistency, letting hitters on for free, and giving up the long ball is a dangerous mix.

Hosmer and his .356 wOBA, .198 ISO, and 41.0% hard-hit rate versus right-handed pitchers this season are in a great spot to continue this upward trend he has been on over the past two weeks.
