4 Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for 6/21/17
The Minnesota Twins' offense proved they could excel against a left-handed starter last night. Does that make them the top team to stack Wednesday in MLB DFS?

Stacking can be a controversial topic in many daily fantasy sports, but you can count baseball as a glaring exception. Here, it's universal.

Using multiple players on the same team on a given day presents you with the opportunity to double dip. If one of your players hits an RBI double, there's a good chance he drove in another one of your guys. When you get the points for both the run and the RBI, you'll be climbing the leaderboards fast.

Each day here on numberFire, we'll go through four offenses ripe for the stacking. They could have a great matchup, be in a great park, or just have a lot of quality sticks in the lineup, but these are the offenses primed for big days that you may want a piece of.

Premium members can use our new stacking feature to customize their stacks within their optimal lineups for the day, choosing the team you want to stack and how many players you want to include. You can also check out our hitting heat map, which provides an illustration of which offenses have the best combination of matchup and potency.

Now, let's get to the stacks. As always, we will not be including today's game at Coors Field in these recommendations. You likely already know you want bats at that hitter's haven and don't need us to tell you. Here are the other teams you should be targeting in daily fantasy baseball today.

Minnesota Twins

We're generally going to prefer the Minnesota Twins when they're facing a right-handed pitcher. It gives us access to guys like Max Kepler and Joe Mauer, both of whom have had really solid batted-ball data this year. But with the way lefty David Holmberg's peripheral stats have gone in his first four starts, we'll make an exception here.

Holmberg's four outings have given us a sample of 17 innings to peep, and the numbers there are a bit underwhelming. His SIERA is 5.54 with a 14.3% strikeout rate, 10.0% walk rate, and 5.5% swinging-strike rate. Those are deficiencies he may be able to overcome if he had elite batted-ball data, but that's certainly not the case with opponents holding a 40.4% hard-hit rate and 42.3% fly-ball rate.

Holmberg has faced some teams that strike the ball well versus lefties, but those are scary plateaus to hit. Although we'll need a larger sample to see if these numbers hold, we don't have much choice but to aggressively target batters going against him.

As mentioned, we do prefer the Twins when they're facing a righty. Robbie Grossman is an exception that sentiment. Over the past calendar year, his numbers have been more friendly for DFS investment when a southpaw has been on the bump.

Past Calendar Year Hard-Hit Rate Soft-Hit Rate Fly-Ball Rate
Versus RHP 28.2% 19.3% 34.5%
Versus LHP 34.3% 12.0% 30.6%

Although Grossman's fly-ball rate is higher against righties, the hard contact heavily favors him on the other side of the dish. He's down to $2,700 on FanDuel and is likely to bat fourth, making this a great time to plug him in. The other guy to watch here is Eduardo Escobar, who has great numbers versus lefties this year. Escobar left last night's game early, but if he plays, he'd be an ideal pairing with Grossman as the start of a Twins stack.
