MLB Daily Fantasy Helper: 8/7/13
Sure, he's facing the hot-hitting Rockies, but so what? He's Matt Freaking Harvey!

We know that people play all sorts of fantasy platforms, not just from from our friends at StarStreet but on other platforms such as FanDuel, Draft Kings, and Fantasy Feud as well. So once again, we have four optimized rosters, all for you, the numberFire reader. One is for free here; the others can be found in our Premium section.

As always, the full tables for today's action are available at our Daily Fantasy Projections page. Make sure to check it out to see where the best values are for your team.

Our baseball projections are updated throughout the day, so make sure to come back to double-check your optimized rosters for any last-minute lineup changes. Since most action happens later in the day, we will be ignoring the early games (if there are any) and focusing solely on the late contests. That way, you can use and tinker with our optimized rosters throughout the day.

The Top Three Pitchers

Matt Harvey – Harvey has mowed down hitters all year, striking out an NL-best 10.27 batters per nine innings, so don’t expect a good-hitting Colorado team to slow him down. We have him projected to strike out 7.21 batters tonight, best among today’s starters. Oh, and he’s pitching at home, so don’t worry about the mile high effect.

Madison Bumgarner – We seem to be constantly recommended pitchers facing the Brewers. Whether that’s a coincidence, the fact that their best hitter is done for the season, or the fact that the Brewers rank just 10th in the NL in runs scored, we’re picking against them tonight. Other than Harvey, Bumgarner’s the only starter projected to notch more than six strikeouts today.

Charlie Morton – Morton takes the mound tonight for the majors’ best team. Yes, the Pirates are now the best team in baseball and appear to be a mortal lock to finally finish above .500. Morton’s got just a 4.07 ERA on the year, but he has a nifty 7.03 K/9 that puts him in the neighborhood of Yovani Gallardo, Jeff Locke, Kris Medlen and Wade Miley. Oh, and he gets to face the punchless Marlins tonight, who rank dead-last in the NL in runs scored.

Top High-Priced Hitters

Mike Trout – What is there to say about Trout that hasn’t been said a million times already? He’s third in baseball in just about every advanced offense stat, behind Chris Davis and Miguel Cabrera, plus he brings basestealing ability that those guys don’t have. Tonight he faces Alexi Ogando, whose 3.26 ERA looks good, but his 4.20 FIP says he’s gotten a little lucky this year.

Troy Tulowitzki – Tulo is projected to put up a full 2.5 more fantasy points than the next-best shortstop, which makes his high price worth it. Even though he’s facing Harvey tonight, he’s mashed righties this season, putting up a .324 average and .614 slugging against them this year.

Cost-Effective Mid-Range Hitters

Dan Uggla – Sure, Uggla’s hitting just .193 on the year, but he might be having the greatest season ever by someone batting under .200. (And I only kind of mean that as a backhanded compliment.) He’s got 21 home runs, good for sixth in the National League, and he walks enough to put up a .309 OBP despite his horrible average. Oh, and he’s the second baseman most likely to homer tonight, based on our projections.

Darin Ruf – Ruf only has 96 plate appearances on the year, but he’s put up a .309/.417/.543 line in that limited time. In his brief career, he’s putting up a Ruthian .714 slugging against lefties. And tonight, he’s facing a lefty in Chicago’s Travis Wood.
