5 Daily Fantasy Baseball Value Plays for 5/1/19

Yulieski Gurriel, 1B, Houston Astros

Price: $2,300

Picking on Martin Perez is nothing new. The Minnesota Twins' southpaw has finished with a skill-interactive ERA (SIERA) worse than 5.00 in each of the last three seasons, and with a 4.81 mark to open 2019, it's not looking like things are going to get much better.

That leaves it as little surprise that the Houston Astros have one of the highest implied totals on today's main slate, sitting third with a mark of 4.77 runs.

Yulieski Gurriel has a weak .287 wOBA on the year, but when you factor in a .267 batting average on balls in play (BABIP) that sits well below his major league career average of .297, the low wOBA isn't as concerning and is likely being held down by some bad luck. His 34.1% hard-hit rate and 14.3% soft-hit rate are both better than his career averages (32.5% and 17.1%), making that low BABIP especially unlikely to last.

So far, he's tagged MLB southpaws for a .336 wOBA and .165 ISO, which is more than enough to put someone in play against Martin Perez, especially with a salary this low.
