3 MLB FanDuel Studs to Target on 4/16/19
Juan Soto has cooled down some in 2019. Is a plus matchup with Dereck Rodriguez enough to make him a top play on Tuesday's 15-game slate?

Joey Gallo, OF, Texas Rangers

Price: $4,200

Joey Gallo is never going to be a high-floor fantasy option. He's shown us that for years, never posting a strikeout rate lower than 35.9% in his first four seasons and boasting a career batting average of .204. His upside on a nightly basis more than makes up for that, though.

Gallo has made 1,318 major league plate appearances (1,165 of which have been since the start of the 2017 season), and he's got a 48.3% hard-hit rate, 49.8% fly-ball rate and 13.4% soft-hit rate. Since the start of the 2017 season, there are 451 hitters with at least 150 batted-ball events; of that group, Gallo's 93.7 mile-per-hour average exit velocity ranks second.

He crushes baseballs, and that contact has turned into a career ISO of .298, with marks of .327 and .292 in the last two seasons.

He has an especially high .309 ISO against right-handed pitching, positioning him well tonight against Jose Berrios and the Minnesota Twins. Berrios is coming off a solid 2018 season in which he posted a 3.80 SIERA, but he still allowed some reasonable contact to opposing hitters, with a 34.2% hard-hit and 38.4% fly-ball rate, so he doesn't offer much to limit Gallo's upside.
