Denard Span and the Mariners are in a great spot against Ariel Jurado. Which other cheap hitters should you target?

Denard Span, OF, Seattle Mariners

Price; $3,000

The Seattle Mariners' offense is one you're going to want exposure to on Thursday. They draw a terrific matchup against Texas Rangers righty Ariel Jurado, and Seattle's 5.06 implied total reflects that.

Jurado has been all kinds of terrible in his 11 Major League starts. He's giving up a 44.6% hard-hit rate with only a 13.6% soft-hit rate. Hitters just aren't swinging and missing against him, either, as he's forcing an absurdly low 3.6% swinging-strike rate. Opposing bats have made contact 95.6% of the time they have swung at one of Jurado's pitches in the strike zone.

With that being the case, it's no surprise that his strikeout rate sits at only 8.6%, which is not only egregiously low but is also pretty close to his 8.1% walk rate. All of these struggles combine to give him a 5.46 skill-interactive ERA (SIERA).

Denard Span doesn't offer anything special from the dish, but his .333 wOBA and .160 ISO this season are both competent marks, and competent is all a hitter needs to offer a ton of value in a matchup with Jurado.
