On paper, Jake Arrieta appears to have been a terrific signing for the Philadelphia Phillies. He has a 3-1 record to go with a 2.59 ERA and .200 opponent average. However, his peripherals belie his early season results. He has just a measly 6.3% swinging-strike rate to go along with a 4.47 SIERA.

He also has a tough matchup Friday against the St. Louis Cardinals. While it isn't reflected in their wRC+, the Cardinals have the third-best hard-hit rate in baseball against right-handed pitching. Combined with average plate discipline metrics, the Cardinals are a tougher matchup for a right-handed pitcher than they appear at first glance.

Combine the matchup with Arrieta's low strikeout potential, so he isn't worth rostering on Friday night.
