Jacob deGrom is filthy, but if you want to pay up at pitcher, you may be better off looking elsewhere on Wednesday night.

Jacob deGrom, SP, New York Mets

FanDuel Price: $10,500

Jacob deGrom is a very good pitcher, posting a sub-3.50 SIERA in 2017 and a sub-3.00 SIERA so far in 2018. Still, a 2.06 ERA is largely unsustainable -- even for him -- and he has the kind of matchup that could cause that ERA to inflate tonight.

The Atlanta Braves have been a terrific offense this season, as they rank top-10 in both wRC+ and wOBA against right-handed pitching. This is driven primarily by their excellent contact ability, as they strike out just 20.8% of the time against right-handed pitching. Combine that with an above average walk rate of 9.2%, and the Braves' plate discipline is strong enough to give DeGrom some problems.

Moreover, these are season-long numbers and don't account much for the presence of Ronald Acuna. Acuna is a right-handed hitter, but he still adds another potent bat to this lineup, and makes this matchup even less friendly for DeGrom. As the highest-priced pitcher on the slate, DeGrom isn't worth paying up for in this spot.
