Nelson Cruz can probably hit a home run in his sleep some days. But he has a tough matchup on Wednesday. The nastiest pitcher in the American League so far in 2018, at least in terms of swinging-strike rate, has not been Shohei Ohtani. It hasn't even been Chris Sale. Gerrit Cole's 17.5% swinging-strike rate leads the American League.

Cole has also been tremendous at managing contact from opposing right-handed hitters in his career. Right-handed batters against Cole have mustered just a .289 wOBA, 26.8% fly-ball rate, and 25.5% hard-hit rate.

Against such a tough pitcher and only recently coming off the disabled list, this isn't a spot where we would expect Cruz to perform well.
