The San Diego Padres may not have a very good offense, but they continue to have plenty of intriguing one-off pieces for tournaments.

Tonight, they get a less-than-ideal matchup against Kenta Maeda, who has posted stellar numbers so far in 2018. But if we look at his career marks against lefties, he's only produced an 18.8% strikeout rate and 8.6% walk rate, while allowing a .323 wOBA.

Those numbers make Franchy Cordero an enticing boom-or-bust play. Cordero may only have 126 career plate appearances, but he's shown nice power upside with a 44.8% hard-hit rate and .203 isolated power (ISO). He's also fleet of foot, ranking amongst the top ten in Statcast's sprint speed last season. Of course, the "bust" part of the equation is a massive 41.3% strikeout rate.

Still, few are likely to be on the Padres against a quality starter, so taking a chance on a cheap and low-owned Cordero could pay dividends if he puts that power and/or speed to work.
