3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Players to Avoid on 8/3/17
Alex Wood has been sensational this season, but his reduced velocity is enough of a concern to fade him in DFS tonight.

Alex Wood, SP, Los Angeles Dodgers

FanDuel Price: $9,600

Given the season he's having, I never thought Alex Wood would make one of these lists. But here we are.

There's no questioning that Wood has been sensational, but there are some concerning signs that he might be starting to wear down. His velocity has been in a steady decline, and judging from his last two starts, it might be finally catching up with him.

In starts against the Atlanta Braves and San Francisco Giants, Wood coughed up 13 runs (11 earned) in just 11 2/3 innings, and his swinging-strike rate amounted to just 9.0% and 8.1%, two of his lowest marks this year. In the month of July, he had a 3.97 SIERA and 22.6% strikeout rate across his last four outings.

Additionally, there's always the workload concern. Wood has hit 100 pitches only once in 16 starts. If he isn't hyper-efficient, there isn't much room for error. He takes on the Braves yet again, who are striking out at a below average rate against southpaws (19.1%).

Wood has shown enough upside that you can still consider going here in tournaments if you think this is a just a bump in the road. But overall, there are enough red flags that it's a hard pass in cash games, particularly when you can pivot to Corey Kluber.
