DraftKings Champions League Daily Fantasy Soccer Helper for 8/7/20

The Champions League is back for a two-game slate on Friday. These are some carry over second legs that couldn't be played in March, and after today and tomorrow, the tournament switches to single legs -- all in Portugal -- for the quarterfinals. Let's look at the odds courtesy of EPL odds:

HomeDraw Away
Juventus -230+360Lyon +600
Manchester City- 135+320Real Madrid +320

Forwards to Target

Cristiano Ronaldo ($10,900): Ronaldo and Juventus just capped off the Serie A season by winning their ninth consecutive league title. He got a rest in the last game of the league campaign, a season which saw him score 31 goals. He may be 35 years old, but he hasn't slowed down his shooting at all. He averaged 6.41 shots per 90 minutes in league matches this season, according to Rotowire.

In this match, Juventus face a Lyon team that have played only one competitive match since March, when Ligue 1 was shut down. Even when play was still happening in France, Lyon weren't a particularly strong team, sitting in seventh place. Ronaldo has the slate's best goal-scoring odds at -195 to score at any time. Ronaldo is close to a must play on this slate as no else can match his goal-scoring upside.

Gabriel Jesus ($8,200): Jesus scored in the first leg of this tie, all the way back in February. He finished the Premier League season strongly, scoring goals in four of the final five games. He'll continue to be the main man up top for Man City with Sergio Aguero out and is favored to score at anytime in this game. City hold a 2-1 lead with the away goals advantage going into this match, which could force Real Madrid to push forward. If that's the case, Jesus could benefit and get a goal with Madrid open defensively.

Karim Benzema ($6,800): Benzema comes in at a severe discount on this slate. He has shone in Real Madrid's attack in the past two years, scoring 21 league goals in both seasons. Those 21 goals were good for second in La Liga, behind only Lionel Messi. As mentioned, Real Madrid have to score at least two goals if they want to advance to the next round of the Champions League, and Benzema is the most likely player to score for them. He's a good value play as one of the best goal scorers on the slate for just $6,800, and with Sergio Ramos suspended, Benz may be on penalties.

Midfielders to Target

Kevin De Bruyne ($10,100): De Bruyne was dazzling in the last Premier League match of the season, scoring twice, assisting once, and creating 10 chances for a whopping 51.2 DraftKings points. The opposition in this match will be a little tougher, but that will slow down De Bruyne only so much. He will still be the majority set-piece taker for a favored team, so he should be just fine. In the away leg in this tie, he got a goal and an assist. He is the highest-floor player on any slate he is on, and this one is no different.

Toni Kroos ($5,900): Kroos is priced down just like the rest of his Real Madrid teammates. They are priced as if they are huge underdogs when in reality they have a decent chance of getting a result in this game. Kroos will be on corner duties for his team, a role which has netted him 4.92 crosses per 90 minutes this season. With Real Madrid pushing forward, Kroos will have more opportunities to create chances, which he was able to do at a clip of 2.02 times per 90 minutes in La Liga this year. Kroos has a solid floor with some upside for a lower-mid priced midfielder, making him in good play in all formats.

Miralem Pjanić ($5,200): Miralem Pjanić may have already agreed to play for Barcelona next season, but he'll still suit up for Juventus in this game. He gets a large share of set pieces for the Italian club, sharing them with Paulo Dybala -- who might sit out injured -- in most matches. We'll need to save money somewhere, so doing it with a favored set-piece taker for just $5,200 is one of the best options we'll have for salary relief.

Defenders to Target

Oleksandr Zinchenko ($4,300): The defender position is extremely thin on this slate with only two games, and Zinchenko looks like one of the better options. He should slot in for the banned Benjamin Mendy at left back for Man City. He averaged 3.68 crosses per 90 minutes, the most among defenders for City. It's also more than likely Juventus starts Juan Cuadrado and Alex Sandro at full-back, but OZ comes at a significant discount. Zinchenko is one of the stronger defender plays on a slate where it is hard to find them.

Ferland Mendy ($4,000): Mendy was solid in the first leg between Real Madrid and Man City, getting six crosses and three shot assists for 11.7 DK points. He'll be one of the cheapest full backs on the slate if he starts. Defender is where you'll want to save money on this slate to fit in other high-priced players at different positions. It makes sense to go to Mendy, who has shown more attacking intent than a lot of the full backs we can choose from.

Goalkeeper to Target

Anthony Lopes ($3,800): It seems crazy to play the goalkeeper who is the biggest underdog, but there is a method to the madness. Facing a player like Ronaldo, who loves to shoot, is good for a goalkeeper and gives him the potential to make lots of saves. You can even play them in the same lineup, and you'll get four points when Ronaldo gets a shot stopped by Lopes. This strategy isn't for the faint of heart and has a lot of variance, but when it works, it can pay off big time.
