FanDuel Premier League Value Plays for Matchweek 14

Value plays are often the difference on the FanDuel leaderboard. With this year's format, value plays will be priced at $12 or lower in most cases. There will be some exceptions along the way.

This article will cover FanDuel's main slate that begins Saturday at 10:00 a.m. EST.

Liverpool, Tottenham, and Chelsea players dominated the top of the salary list. Liverpool players are the highest priced at every position. Sadio Mane ($23) is the highest-priced player again this week. Trent Alexander-Arnold ($16) and Andrew Robertson ($15) top the defender list. Alisson ($14) is the highest-priced keeper.

There are 281 players to pick from on this slate with an average salary just over $10. Only 30 players priced at or below $10 are expected to start. Let's see where the value lies in Matchweek 14.

Forward/Midfield

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Southampton ($12)

The match at Southampton is a relegation battle, so it is hard to predict. However, Hojbjerg is in good form coming off his best game of the season, while improving over each of the last three weeks. Hojbjerg has been active on both sides of the ball. He has three tackles in each of the past two games, while creating at least two chances in four of the last five matches. He tied a season-high for interceptions last week by completing six against Arsenal. Hojbjerg's average is up to just 11.2, but the potential volatility of this match up bodes well for his versatile style. Both teams are expected to score in this game that is likely to be back and forth and played with some urgency. That will keep Hojbjerg busy. It should also be noted that Michael Obafemi ($8) is likely to start at forward for Southampton at the lowest price on the slate and will be someone Hojbjerg hopes to find on the end of crosses.

Harry Winks, Tottenham ($8)

With Jose Mourinho in charge, Winks has been thrust back into the starting lineup and he is taking corners. In the last two matches, one in the Premier League and one in the Champions League, Winks has had five crosses a piece. Both of those resulted in Spurs win, so there is no reason to change out the lineup. Winks had three tackles and two interceptions against Olympiakos on Tuesday to add to his new offensive duties during dead ball situations. Bournemouth have won just one of their last seven Premier League games, including three straight without a win on the road. Spurs should have a possession advantage as well, which will allow Winks to continue to round into his new role.

Defender

Phil Bardsley, Burnley ($10)

Bardsley returned to the line up two matches ago and has not missed a beat. He scored 20.8 and 16.7 points in those two games against two struggling teams, and will face another struggling squad, Crystal Palace. Bardsley started 19 games last season with six ending in clean sheets. Bardsley has seven clearances and five interceptions in his two games. He drew six fouls last week against Watford showing his confidence on the ball. He also has one chance created and one shot on target since coming back from a back problem. Burnley face a Crystal Palace team that has lost four of five games and have scored just one goal in the last three. Although not scoring as well, Charlie Taylor ($8), should be considered as well for Burnley, as he is fully recovered from a groin injury and playing on the opposite side of Bardsley.

Joseph Gomez, Liverpool ($9)

This is a gamble, but Liverpool will need to shuffle lineups over the next week. They have a Champions League match and two Premier League games in the span of a eight days. Gomez was on the bench and ready to go this past Saturday after a minor knee injury. He has not had a chance to play much this season, but Liverpool's schedule is about to get hectic. Gomez started 12 of his 16 appearances in the Premier League last season and finished with 11 tackles and 15 interceptions. He also drew at least one foul in eight of his starts last year. Liverpool have won six straight against Brighton across all competitions and they continue to lead the league. Gomez may not be Alexander-Arnold or Robertson, but exposure to a Liverpool outside back in a match they should win at a low cost is enticing.

Keeper

Alex McCarthy, Southampton ($8)

This is likely a week that most players will roster the high-priced keepers. If not, McCarthy sits at the lowest price on the slate against a team that struggles to convert their chances. McCarthy has made eight saves and cleared six out of the box in the last three games. Although both teams are expected to score, the game is not supposed to be high scoring. Watford have been shut out in three of the last six games, including last week against Burnley. Southampton have struggled for the last couple seasons, but McCarthy allowed just one goal to Watford last season and did finish with three clean sheets. Given what was stated earlier, this is clearly a high-risk, high-reward pick.
