4 FanDuel Premier League Studs to Target for Matchweek 9

It's been a sluggish start to the year for Spurs, but they've got a get-right date this weekend at home versus Watford, putting Harry Kane in a great spot.

As is the case when playing any sport on FanDuel, it’s imperative to hit on high-priced studs, the players in which you’ve made the biggest investment. This is especially true with forwards in soccer. Not only are the top-end forwards expensive, they are the ones most likely to put the ball in the back of the net, and goals are often the difference between winning and losing in DFS.

This article will cover FanDuel's main slate, which begins Saturday at 10:00 a.m. EST and features seven matches.

Matchweek 9
Saturday, October 19th
Brighton at Aston Villa
Watford at Tottenham
Newcastle at Chelsea
Southampton at Wolves
Norwich City at Bournemouth
Burnley at Leicester City
Manchester City at Crystal Palace

The first weekend after international break gives us a really fun main slate. There are so many routes to take when building for this slate. Unlike a lot of previous main slates, we have a bunch of favored sides, with six of the seven matches (Brighton-Villa the exception) featuring a clear favorite. The biggest of the crop is Manchester City, per Soccer odd, as they are -420 favorites at Palace, which implies win odds of 80.8%. The rest of the favorites are all home sides -- Chelsea (-340, 77.3% implied win odds), Tottenham (-240, 70.6%), Leicester (-210, 67.7%), Wolves (-125, 55.6%) and Bournemouth (-125, 55.6%).

Let’s take a look at some high-priced players -- all across the pitch -- who, despite costing a good chunk of change, are worth the investment.

Harry Kane, FWD, Tottenham

FanDuel Price: $22

Well, it's been a rough start to the year for Spurs, and they haven't looked convincing even as big home favorites against weaker sides. But if there's a get-right spot for them, it's this one as they host Watford.

Watford haven't won a match this season and have conceded 20 goals in eight matches. Spurs are heavy favorites (-240), and whenever that's the case, Kane needs to be on our radar.

England's number-nine, Kane hasn't been in his best form thus far, and he's been his usual volatile, goal-reliant self when it comes to DFS. But he's still got five goals with one assist and will be on penalties. He's also gone for more than 40 FanDuel points twice this season.

Sergio Agüero, FWD, Manchester City

FanDuel Price: $23

As of Tuesday, Agüero looks like a slight injury risk after news broke during the international break that he's been carrying a knock for most of the season. While that's surprising considering Agüero has been a fixture in the Man City lineup and has played well, we should have more clarity on the situation as the week progresses.

If Agüero is in the lineup, this is a great spot for him on the road versus Crystal Palace, a match in which City are monster -420 favorites. If he misses the game, City have plenty of other enticing high-priced options, as you are undoubtedly aware.

The Argentine has eight goals and two assists this season, and he's flashed an insane ceiling with games of 51.6 and 56.9 FanDuel points. He did fail to notch any fantasy points in either of the last two matches, however. That and the recent injury news may scare people away from using Agüero, but if he's in the lineup, you should have no hesitation plugging him in.

Tammy Abraham, FWD, Chelsea

FanDuel Price: $19

Chelsea are the slate's second-biggest favorite as they host Newcastle. The Magpies have allowed 13 goals in eight games, though that's skewed by a five-goal drubbing at the hands of Leicester City in their previous road fixture. Still, as oddsmakers have made obvious, this is a great matchup for Chelsea.

Abraham has been a breakout star early on, leading the line for the Blues and scoring eight goals. He's flashed through-the-roof upside by scoring seven of those goals across three outings and going for 43.0, 58.3 and 63.9 FanDuel points in those matches.

The youngster is still heavily reliant on goals for DFS production, scoring just 3.0, 3.9, 7.6 and 21.0 FanDuel points in the matches in which he didn't make the net bulge. But he's in a great spot to add to his goal tally with Chelsea a comfortable home favorite.

Callum Wilson, FWD, Bournemouth

FanDuel Price: $18

With so many favored sides to choose from, Bournemouth could fly under the radar, but that would be a mistake. The Cherries' match with Norwich should be a very fantasy-friendly affair. Norwich have given up a league-worst 21 goals this season, and they've been brutal away from home. Bournemouth, meanwhile, usually play a fairly open style, making both teams attractive in this fixture.

Wilson has been solid as of late, putting up at least 22 FanDuel points in four of his past five matches. In his four big outputs in that span, he's scored at least one goal in each of the matches, and he's got five goals for the campaign.

If you want a contrarian stack, you could pair Wilson with fellow Cherries attacker Joshua King ($15), who has two goals and two assists this season. That would give you a great shot to get in on any Bournemouth goal, and there's a chance you could get both the assist and goal if Wilson and King hook up on a scoring play.
