FanDuel Women's World Cup Daily Fantasy Helper: Tuesday 6/25/19

The Women's World Cup is here, and FanDuel is offering daily fantasy contests. The Tuesday main slate will start at noon EST and include both of the day's matches.

FanDuel has altered its soccer format for the Women's World Cup for the multi-match offerings, and it's important to know how those changes impact things. The single-match slates, however, are the same format as usual.

Per FanDuel Sportsbook, this is one of the more evenly matched slates we've had in this tournament. Netherlands is the day's biggest favorite, and they're at just -120, which implies win odds of 54.5%. In the Italy-China clash, Italy is favored at a line of +110, implying win odds of 47.2%. The balanced slate opens the door to several paths of lineup building. It'll be imperative to build lineups with certain game outcomes in mind for each match.

Let's look at players at different price points who can thrive on this slate.

Forwards/Midfielders

Vivianne Miedema, Netherlands ($20)

As we went through in the intro, this is one of the more balanced slates of the tourney, and that makes ownership levels tough to predict since there are so many useable routes to lineup construction without any massive favorites. One of the exceptions is Miedema, who should be fairly popular as the Dutch are the biggest favorite, boasting implied win odds of 54.5%, per FanDuel Sportsbook.

Miedema has been a boom-or-bust play through three outings, sandwiching DFS outputs of 11.0 and 5.2 FanDuel points around a 51.0-point day. In the blowup game against Cameroon, she scored a brace and created two chances. She also created a pair of chances versus New Zealand in the 11.0-point game, but in the 5.2-point dud against Canada, she didn't take a shot on goal or create a chance.

Miedema scored four goals in four 2019 friendlies and racked up seven goals with an assist in nine World Cup qualifiers. She's the top goal-scorer on a favorite, and she needs to be on our radar.

Cristiana Girelli ($22) and Barbara Bonansea ($20), Italy

Stacking these two Italian players probably won't be a popular move. But they've been superb in this tournament, and Italy is a slight favorite versus China. China is a good team that got out of a really good group, but they allowed a combined 40 shots (13 on target) in their two matches against Spain and Germany, the two best teams they've faced. It's been a Chinese team that's absorbed a lot of pressure against good sides.

Girelli and Bonansea have accounted for five of Italy's seven goals, but they've both been fairly quiet in DFS outside of a big game for each. Girelli, who plays in a number-10 role, went nuts against Jamaica, scoring three goals on her way to an eye-popping 73.2 FanDuel points. She has, however, created just two total chances in the tourney and has gone without a shot on goal outside of the Jamaica match. Bonansea, a forward, scored twice in a 42.6-FanDuel-point game Italy's first match and has 13.9 and 12.8 FanDuel points in her other two games.

Hina Sugita, Japan ($16)

Sugita has been a high-floor option through three matches, averaging 17.9 FanDuel points per game and scoring at least 12.1 FanDuel points in each outing. She's done it thanks to her all-around contributions. She's created a chance in every match, totaling five in all, and she's also got at least three tackles in every match. With Japan an underdog to Netherlands, Sugita should have to work defensively, and she's capable of getting involved in any goal-scoring opportunities Japan creates.

Wang Shuang, China ($8)

Shuang started as a forward in a two-striker formation in China's last match, and while China's attack generated very little in the group stage, any $8 starting forward should get our attention. Shuang has had one good game in this event, creating five chances and scoring 18.9 FanDuel points against an overmatched South Africa side. She combined for a meager 5.6 total FanDuel points in her other two matches. The floor here is very low, but the price is nice and two of the four most likely scores, per oddsmakers, have China getting a goal.

Defenders

Desiree van Lunteren, Netherlands ($12)

Van Lunteren offers the most upside among defenders on this slate. Over three matches, she's created three chances and logged one assist in addition to a smattering of defensive actions. While no team on this slate has great clean-sheet odds, three of the five most likely scorelines for Netherlands-Japan, per FanDuel Sportsbook, involve Netherlands keeping a clean sheet. Van Lunteren is a great stacking partner with any of the Dutch forwards in the hopes that they find the end of one of her crosses.

Lin Yuping, China ($12)

With China being on the defensive for much of the group stage, they've offered some high-floor defenders. Yuping fits that mold. She had just 11.5 FanDuel points against South Africa, but in the matches versus Germany and Spain, she amassed 18.0 and 18.2 FanDuel points. Teammates Wu Haiyan ($16) and Liu Shanshan ($14) are also nice high-floor plays, but they're a bit more expensive.

Goalies

Sari van Veenendaal, Netherlands ($16)

Whatever game assumptions you're operating under when building your lineup should impact who you pick in goal. For example, if you have Japan pulling an upset and are grabbing a few Japanese attackers, you should roster Ayaka Yamashita ($10) at keeper. In GPPs, hedging isn't the way to go -- pick a route and go all in on said route.

The keeper with the best odds of notching a win is always in play, and that's van Veenendaal on this slate. As we mentioned with van Lunteren, three of the five most likely scores for this match, per oddsmakers, result in Netherlands getting a clean sheet, and the Dutch are the biggest favorite on the slate.

Peng Shimeng, China ($12)

Shimeng has been outstanding in this tournament, and while she's an underdog (+290) versus Italy, she's not a massive underdog (or at least she's not as big of an underdog as the aforementioned Yamashita). Shimeng had one of the performances of the tourney against Spain in her last match, making nine saves in a 0-0 draw, which resulted in 37.0 FanDuel points. She also had a one-save clean-sheet against South Africa (20.0 FanDuel points) and made three saves in a 1-0 defeat to Germany (6.5).

Obviously, we can't expect nine saves, but Shimeng should be busy and could put up a solid day if she makes a handful of stops and keeps Italy to just one goal. Plus, a win bonus isn't completely out of the question.
