Premier League: 4 FanDuel Value Plays for Matchweek 10

Simon Mignolet gets a home date with a Huddersfield side that has struggled in their travels. Which other low-cost players are in a good spot?

The fixtures on the six-game FanDuel slate for the EPL's Matchweek 10 provide more uncertainty than the past few weeks. The slate does feature teams from across the Premier League table, but only table-topping Manchester City seems to have fully figured out their identity.

Matchweek 10
Saturday, October 28th
Huddersfield at Liverpool
West Ham at Crystal Palace
Manchester City at West Brom
Swansea City at Arsenal
Stoke City at Watford
Chelsea at Bournemouth

There are 20 players priced at or above $9,000, and each of them are expected to factor into the games on Saturday. It is good to have the top stars in the games, but the lack of injuries or suspensions means less value players finding time on the field. Also, four games have heavy favorites that will likely dominate possession, so there are less unique options for cost savings.

With all that said, it is the Premier League, and there is always a surprise. There are still several players that provide great value, so let's get to it.

Forward

Jese ($7,000): The inclusion of Jese is partially based in history. Stoke City have won the last three Premier League matches between Stoke and Watford. In two of the last three games, a center forward scored a goal. If Stoke sticks with the back three, Jese should start in that role.

Jese shares the top odds for anytime goal scorer for Stoke, and recent track records indicate that both teams will score. There have been over 2.5 goals scored in the last six Stoke matches and the last five Watford matches. Neither team averages more than 48% of the possession, so Stoke and Watford should both find themselves with time on the ball and opportunities in front of net.

Jese might find himself pushed out to the left flank, but he could fulfill a creator role if that is the case. When Peter Crouch was introduced last Saturday, Jese was pushed out wide. He put in one of his better performances of the season in that position, and the dynamics changed for Stoke. If Crouch and Jese are in the lineup together, do not be discouraged as there is still value.

Midfielder

Ki Sung-yeung ($4,000): Make sure to check Swansea's team sheet ahead of the match against Arsenal as Sung-yeung did play in the League Cup in the middle of the week. However, it was his performance in that match that warrants another start on Saturday. He was consistently willing to take the game at Manchester United and did well on set pieces.

Sung-yeung just returned to training at the beginning of this month, and the League Cup action was his first chance to make a large impact on the Swans. He was subbed on at halftime in last week's Premier League match versus Leicester and was credited for two chances created, scoring nearly 11 FanDuel points in limited time. He also recorded one tackle and two clearances in the match against Leicester.

He will be needed defensively for Swansea against Arsenal. The Gunners have won three of their last four matches and come off a five-goal performance last weekend. Arsenal could name the same starting XI to try to break down Swansea. However, there have been less than 2.5 goals scored in the Swans' last nine away matches. If they want to keep that going, Sung-yeung will need to be involved in tracking back and defending.

If Sung-yeung does not start, look toward Leroy Fer, Luciano Narsingh, or Sam Clucas. Fer is $2,500 more expensive but would play a similar role. Clucas could find himself starting in the back line.

Defender

Allan Nyom ($4,500): The West Brom back line is going to be very busy against Manchester City, the league's leading attack. Tony Pulis will likely deploy a back four as the Baggies try to bend, but not break at the back.

Nyom and the others in the back four could still rack up points even if they concede multiple goals. With Gareth McAuley's availability in question, Nyom is the cheapest option of West Brom's expected starters. Nyom is also speaking with a great deal of confidence, insisting that the spirit is still strong in the locker room despite being just two points above the relegation zone.

Even though the spirit may be strong, West Brom is likely in for a long day on Saturday. City owned 70% of the possession when these teams last met. West Brom recorded nearly 30 interceptions and 17 clearances as a team. There is no reason to think that those numbers will change ahead of this fixture.

Keeper

Simon Mignolet ($4,000): Liverpool's starting Premier League keeper makes the value picks again as keepers continue to be bunched up on FanDuel.

Liverpool were pummeled at Spurs last week while opponent Huddersfield got their biggest win to date, topping Manchester United. However, Liverpool have kept a clean sheet in five of their last six home Premier League matches while Huddersfield have failed to score in their last three games on the road.

Huddersfield only average 9.3 shots per game this season, as well. All of these factors increase the likelihood of another clean sheet. Mignolet is tied with Jack Butland for the lowest price of any expected starter, so on a tough week for keepers, Mignolet profiles as a very good option.
