Relegation Battle Is Already Shaping Up

As stated in the opening, all three current relegation zone teams are on the slate. For at least Cardiff and Huddersfield, it seems clear that they will be battling relegation for the entire season. The jury is still out on Newcastle, but it does not look good there, either.

Huddersfield have yet to win and have a -13 goal differential, the worst mark in the league. They have also scored the fewest amount of goals in the EPL. They average less than 10 shots per match with just over 45% possession while allowing 15 shots a game. Their only player who averages over 20 FanDuel points per match is Jon Gorenc Stankovic ($4,500), and he has played only one match. They currently have nearly a 35% implied chance of relegation.

Cardiff have a higher chance of relegation than Huddersfield. They have also not won, but they have scored one more goal than Huddersfield has. Manager Neil Warnock thinks his team will be able to sign a few players in January, but he does not sound convincing. He also knows nothing will change until January and spoke of a team that got to the Premier League too quickly.

Newcastle is a special case as they have the manager and owner in place to potentially make moves. However, Mike Ashley has reportedly shut down communication with Rafa Benitez until just recently. Fans have long asked Ashley to sell the club, but instead he keeps them in a stagnant state. They have yet to win and will struggle with this current roster. It is hard to say if much will change by the end of December.
