Who is the second best WR of All-Time?
Going back to a SB storyline here. Everyone (should) agree that Jerry Rice is the best of all-time, but is Moss #2 or is it someone else?

    I may be wrong here, but I am pretty sure Tony Dungy championed the "Cover 2" as a defensive coordinator in Minnesota as a why to goat Brett Favre's "gunslinger" mentality into throwing into bad coverage. Dungy then took this concept with him to Tampa when he became Head Coach there.

    I'll throw a name out there that hasn't been mentioned yet (please don't laugh). Though he wasn't all that fast or really had any other distinguishing physical attributes, Steve Largent somehow always got open and caught anything that was in his zip code. When he retired, he held almost all the major WR records (later all beat by Jerry Rice) while playing on run first teams and never having an elite QB (Jim Zorn and Dave Krieg are not exactly Joe Montana and Steve Young). He was never flashy but always reliable, so I think I would take Largent over a Moss or Owens any day.

    Largent was a great player and the best reciever of his time and i agree with many of your arguments, but he played when the defenses were slower, the players lighter. To top all of that off, he was one of the strongest recievers of his time, and he weighted 187 pounds. Not saying that he wasn't great, but he couldn't play today--he would be physically outmatched.

    I can't see someone like Moss, who only plays about 50% of a whole game being the second best WR of all time.. there are just so many better players out there. Carter, Art Monk or Harrison, I think are better Wr's than Moss.. heck I think all of the 25 top WR's ranked by Nfl are better than Moss.. they all played everydown for their teams.. except TO.. he tool plays off as well.

    His "I'll play when I want to" attitude is a huge turnoff. They say that #'s never lie and Moss is close to have the 2nd most yards but if you look at what Don Hutson did in the 40's and 50's and what his #'s were when he retired vs all other recievers, he was every bit as dominant #'s wise as Rice remains today. I'm not saying he was a better athlete than Moss, but a case can be made for Hutson.

    Terrell Ownes and Cris Carter rank 3rd and 4th on the all time TD list for WRs (behind Rice and Moss). Of those 2 Carter played more season for 2 less teams which could be attributed to him being a "better teammate" than TO. If we are taking Rice and Moss out of the discussion I'm going with Cris Carter.

    Randy Moss changed the entire game of football. There was no cover 2 until Randy Moss was outrunning the safety on the top. Jerry rice had two hall of famm qb's throwing to him a world class organization and a great defense. Randy Moss made Randall Cunningham matter again, made Jeff George a lot of money and made Tom Brady's backup look like Tom Brady with an 11-4 record. He was never in trouble with the law, his teammates, particularly the Patriots always vouched for him and look at all of those quarterbacks, particularly Culpepper and what happened to them after he left: steep decline.

    Randy Moss was so good, Chris Carter got the single coverage that pushed him into the hall of fame. People forget he was a bust in Philly becasue of drugs. He changed the Patriots from a defensive first team to a team that should have won that Superbowl with his game winning touchdown and Brady shattering all kinds of records without the benefit of a freak offense that no one was prepared for (the West Coast offense). Randy Moss is the best receiver of all time. Greatness is a function of time and era. But if you're teling me that with one possession left in a game down 6 there is another receiver you will choose over Randy Moss, i'd have to say you probably just don't like him
