Questions
Do the projections take into account the time of year and/or playoff picture. For example, Oakland is projected to beat the spread, but since they're out of it, they might play less hard.

The projections for the spread are created based on numerous variables, one of which can be time of the year and/or playoff picture, but that is a small variable. The variable that mostly shift the spread in one teams favor or another are mainly injuries. For example the Steelers played the Ravens last week and at the beginning of the week when the spreads were released Baltimore was a -1 favorite. After Thursday when Pitts released the statement Ben was not going to play the spread increased dramatically to -7 for the favored Ravens. In your example with Oakland against the Broncos tonight the spread is favoring the Broncos because A) They are a far superior team B) Oakland has no running game and the only way they can produce points is allowing Palmer to throw 50+ times a game, which than leads to C) Denver's defense has created 1-2 turnovers a game over the last 5 games ( Palmer will throw an INT) and D) The Broncos have one of the best QBs of all time with a talented group of WRs to complement him. If you wanted an opinion on the spread i would Lay the Points and take Broncos -10.5. Prediction: Broncos 34 Raiders 17
