Buffalo Sabres center Jack Eichel took an early lead in the Calder Trophy race by firing home his first NHL goal in the third period of Buffalo's 3-1 loss to the Ottawa Senators on Thursday night.
Taking a perfect pass from Marcus Foligno directly in front of the net, Eichel waited for the puck to settle down, then rifled a rocket past Senators' goalie Craig Anderson to narrow the Sabres' deficit to 2-1.
Eichel played 21 minutes, 58 seconds in his debut and finished with three shots and a plus/minus of minus-1.
