Buffalo Sabres right winger Brian Gionta (lower body) will not participate in Thursday's opener.
What It Means:
Gionta was third on the Sabres last year with 35 points in 69 games. Buffalo had serious struggles last season, winning only 23 games, and missing Gionta isn't going to make starting this season any easier.
