Red Wings' Brad Richards closes the books on NHL career

Detroit Red Wings winger Brad Richards has announced his retirement.

What It Means:

Richards is choosing to hang up his skates after tallying 932 points (298 goals, 634 assists) in 1,126 games with the Tampa Bay Lightning, Dallas Stars, New York Rangers, Chicago Blackhawks, and Detroit Red Wings. He won the Stanley Cup twice and claimed the 2004 Conn Smythe Trophy after posting 26 points (12 goals, 14 assists) in 23 games during the playoff run that season. Richards reflected on his career saying, "Winning the Stanley Cups in Tampa Bay and Chicago was the best part of my career and I will never forget those moments. Nothing compares to enjoying that night with your team and knowing what you have accomplished together."
