Blues re-sign Jaden Schwartz to five-year, $26.75 million contract

Winger Jaden Schwartz has signed a five-year, $26.75 million contract with the St. Louis Blues.

What It Means:

Schwartz and the Blues were heading to arbitration on July 20, but this hearing is now unnecessary. Although Schwartz only played 33 games last season due to injuries, he still tallied 22 points. That came after setting a career-high with 63 points in 75 contests during the 2014-15 season, which came with a career high in goals (28) and assists (35). That solid production will now cost the Blues a $5.35 million annual cap hit. General manager Doug Armstrong expressed his thoughts on Schwartz saying, "He’s part of that core we have moving forward. Schwartz and (Vladimir) Tarasenko, Robby Fabbri, Colton Parayko, Alex Pietrangelo, Jake Allen - we’re trying to build around these guys. Having Schwartz wrapped up in that group, we know we now have a core that we can build around and try to win a championship around."

Schwartz's ability to drive possession varies depending on the stat. His Corsi For Percentage was a solid 53.5, but his Relative Corsi For Percentage at Even Strength was a mediocre -0.6.
