After a disappointing season, the Minnesota Wild bought out the final year of Vanek's three-year, $19.5 contract. This new deal is much more in line with his recent level of play. If he's able to bounce back and regain his old form, then this will prove to be a fantastic deal for Detroit.

Vanek tallied 41 points (18 goals, 23 assists) in 74 games played last season. His point total dropped for the second straight season and he was poor at driving possession as well. His Corsi For Percentage was just 47.4 and his Relative Corsi For Percentage at Even Strength was -0.4. The 32 year-old will have to look for an opportunity elsewhere.
