Jake Allen, Blues agree to four-year extension

The St. Louis Blues and goalie Jake Allen have agreed to a four-year contract extension worth $17.4 million.

What It Means:

Allen seemed thrilled after the agreement saying, "I'm so excited to be a Blue for the next five years. This is where I want to be. This is the place that drafted me and made me the goalie I am today. I want to be a Blue forever and I'm looking forward to being able to stay here for the next five years. With the contract out of the way, now I can focus on hockey and worry about winning a championship." After splitting time with Brian Elliot last season (Allen played in 47 games, while Elliot played in 41), Allen has the starting gig all to himself. The Blues traded Elliot during this year's draft.

Allen had a solid season, posting a .920 save percentage and a 2.35 goals against average. The Blues relied on Elliot more in the playoffs, however, as he saw 18 starts compared to just two for Allen.
