Minnesota brings in Eric Staal on three-year deal

The Minnesota Wild have agreed to terms with center Eric Staal on a three-year deal, which has an annual average value of $3.5 million.

What It Means:

The Carolina Hurricanes traded Staal to the New York Rangers last season, and he managed to tally only six points in 20 games with New York. He was more productive in Carolina, recording 33 points (10 goals, 23 assists) in 63 games.

Staal was excellent at driving possession with the Hurricanes. His Corsi For Percentage was an impressive 57.0 and his Relative Corsi For Percentage at Even Strength was 6.5. These totals dropped with the Rangers to 50.0 and 5.8, but were still solid marks.
