Vanek has one year remaining on his three-year, $19.5 million contract. Buying out what's left of his deal with save the Wild $5 million in cap space for the upcoming season, which in addition to the financial flexibility they already possess, would allow them to make some serious moves this summer. Vanek tallied 41 points (18 goals, 23 assists) in 74 games played last season.

Vanek's point total dropped for the second straight season and he was poor at driving possession as well. His Corsi For Percentage was just 47.4 and his Relative Corsi For Percentage at Even Strength was -0.4. The 32 year-old will have to look for an opportunity elsewhere.
