Rangers won't buy out Dan Girardi's contract
The New York Rangers will reportedly not buy out defenseman Dan Girardi's contract.
The team has also not asked Girardi if he'd be willing to waive his no-trade clause, so while anything is still possible, it looks like he'll be back in 2016-'17. Girardi is coming off of a rough season, but he was playing through a knee issue. His six-year, $33 million contract runs through the 2019-'20 season.
Girardi tallied just 17 points (two goals, 15 assists) this season, which -- besides the lockout-shortened season in 2012-13 -- was his lowest total since his rookie year (2007-'08). He also posted the lowest possession stats of his career, recording just a 41.3 Corsi For Percentage and -9.0 Relative Corsi For Percentage at Even Strength.
