Brian Boyle scores overtime winner as Lightning edge Islanders in thriller

Tampa Bay Lightning center Brian Boyle scored the game-winning goal in Tuesday's 5-4 overtime win over the New York Islanders in Game 3.

What It Means:

The Bolts battled back from deficits of 1-0, 3-2 and 4-3 in this one. Forward Nikita Kucherov tied the game at 4-4 with 38 seconds remaining in the third period to force overtime. In the extra frame, it took Boyle just 2:48 seconds to bury the winner. There was some controversy leading up to the goal as Boyle took Isles defenseman Thomas Hickey out of the play with a solid bodycheck, which the Islanders felt should have been a penalty. Boyle has two goals and 16 penalty minutes this postseason. Tampa Bay leads the best-of-seven series 2-1.

In the regular season, Boyle scored 13 goals and dished out seven helpers. His 51.1 Corsi For Percentage and -2.7 Relative Corsi For Percentage at Even Strength were both career-best clips.
