Washington Capitals defenseman Brooks Orpik has been suspended three games for his hit (interference) on Olli Maatta on Saturday night in Game 2.
That is a statement from the NHL, but it was an ugly play. Orpik drilled Maatta with a late, high hit at 4:13 of the first period. Maatta seemed woozy and is more than likely out for Game 3, if not the rest of the series because of a concussion (though the exact injury hasn’t been announced). With the second-round series with the Penguins 1-1, there is a chance that Orpik’s season is over.
Orpik finished the regular season with 10 points in 41 games and ranked fourth among Washington defensemen with a 52.1 Corsi For Percentage.
