David Backes plays hero in Blues' Game 1 overtime win

St. Louis Blues center David Backes banked a shot in off a Chicago Blackhawks defender at 9:04 of overtime, helping the Blues to a 1-0 win in Game 1.

What It Means:

It was his first ever playoff overtime goal, and it was the only goal scored on this evening. The lucky bounce came about midway through the overtime period when his centering pass went in off Chicago defender Trevor van Riemsdyk and through the legs of Corey Crawford. The Blackhawks were doing a great job of blocking shots in this game, holding the Blues to just 18 shots on goal, but St. Louis' netminder Brian Elliott was the difference.

Backes had 21 goals and 24 assists this regular season. He owned a 51.1 Corsi For Percentage and -1.9 Relative Corsi For Percentage at Even Strength, both of which were below his career average.
