Flames' Ladislav Smid leaves game with upper-body ailment

Calgary Flames defenseman Ladislav Smid left Wednesday's game against the Minnesota Wild after taking a hit in the second period.

What It Means:

The team's Twitter account is calling it an "upper body injury." He was ridden into the boards awkwardly in the first period. The Flames are suddenly very thin on the backend with the Dennis Wideman suspension, and this could be a big blow if Smid has to miss significant time.

Smid has yet to register a point and owns a plus/minus of minus-7 in 22 games played this season. We project him to stay scoreless the rest of the way while posting a plus/minus of minus-6. Smid's -5.9 Relative Corsi For Percentage at Even Strength is well below his career average of -3.9. On the other hand, his 46.7 Corsi For Percentage is above his 44.4 career average.
