Jonathan Drouin done with Lightning

Tampa Bay Lightning winger Jonathan Drouin's agent, Allan Walsh, issued a statement Wednesday saying that Drouin does not intend to continue with the Lightning "in any capacity."

What It Means:

Walsh's statement was in response to an announcement by Tampa Bay GM Steve Yzerman. Yzerman said that Drouin had been suspended indefinitely, without pay, for failing to report to the Syracuse Crunch's game, the AHL affiliate of the Lightning. He was at the Crunch's morning skate, but didn't play in their game on Wednesday. Walsh also mentioned in his statement that the Tampa Bay was close to completing a trade that involved Drouin, so it was requested by the player and his agent that he not play in order to avoid an injury. The Lightning refused the request, which forced Drouin to refuse to play. Now, he'll to have to sit at home until a trade can be completed in what has become a messy divorce.

After playing 70 games last season in his rookie year, Drouin has played just 19 this season, totaling 8 points (2 goals, 6 assists). He wasn't helping control possession when he did play, posting a Corsi For Percentage of 50.6 and a Relative Corsi For Percentage at Even Strength of -4.9. The Lightning did not envision such a quick ending to Drouin's tenure in Tampa Bay, after selecting him with the number three overall pick in the 2013 draft.
