Capitals want Mike Richards to play before All-Star Game

Washington Capitals center Mike Richards won't be in the lineup Thursday night against the Vancouver Canucks.

What It Means:

Richards hasn't played yet this season, but Washington coach Barry Trotz would like to get him into the lineup prior to the All-Star break. The Capitals have seven games left before the break. It's possible Richards could be sent to the minors for a conditioning stint.

Richards had just 16 points (five goals, 11 assists) in 55 games played last season, and it was the first time in his career he failed to record at least 32 points in any season. His Corsi For Percentage was also down from the two prior seasons, but his total of 50.9 percent was right on par with his career average of 50.8 percent. However, his Relative Corsi For at Even Strength of -4.2 was worse than his career average of -3.3.
