What It Means:

Both players, although three years apart, were fourth overall draft picks. In Johansen, Nashville is getting a young, elite forward that has the potential to mesh favorably with Filip Forsberg. The Predators are giving up a very promising defenseman in Jones, but Nashville's defense is likely strong enough to make that sacrifice viable. This also marks a dramatic end to Johansen's tenure with Columbus as he never seemed to mesh well with new Blue Jackets coach John Tortorella.

This change of scenery could help turn Johansen's season around as he has been something of a disappointment thus far with 26 points in 38 games. We have him projected to tally 11 more goals with 22 more assists over the remainder of the season. As for Jones, he has one goal and 10 helpers in 40 games. Our models see him scoring three more goals and dishing out 11 more assists over the rest of the campaign. Jones is a restricted free agent after this season and is due a hefty raise.
