Wild hopeful Mikko Koivu isn't out long term

Minnesota Wild center Mikko Koivu flew home with his teammates after he was released from the hospital on Tuesday night.

What It Means:

The Wild have not disclosed the injury that Koivu suffered against the Columbus Blue Jackets, but Minnesota coach Mike Yeo said he's "very hopeful" that it won't be long-term. Koivu was injured after he crashed hard into the end boards from a check at the goal line by defenseman David Savard.

The 32-year-old Koivu has 10 goals and 22 assists in 39 games this season. We project him to register nine more goals and 22 more helpers, assuming this isn't a significant injury. Koivu's Corsi For Percentage (53.5) and Relative Corsi For Percentage at Even Strength (5.5) are both slightly better than his career averages.
