NHL Daily Fantasy Helper: Monday 3/21/22

NHL DFS is similar to MLB in terms of how you build lineups, how you view stacking, and how to value players.

Two main points to always focus on in NHL DFS are what lines the players are on and making sure the goalies you are rostering are confirmed as the starters. Two of the best resources for that are LeftWingLock.com or DailyFaceOff.com. That is where you can find updated forward and power-play lines for each team, along with which goalies are confirmed as the starters.

Let's jump in to take a look at today's slate and some players to consider for your lineups.

Goalie to Target

Juuse Saros ($7,700): The Nashville Predators are strong -170 road favorites against the Anaheim Ducks, and Saros is too cheap tonight. This is a very clear plus matchup for Saros, and given the fact his salary is under $8,000, you can look to him in all formats tonight. The Predators are allowing 2.23 goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the 11th lowest in the league. They have been one of the better defenses all season, and Saros has been a big part of that.

The Ducks' offense comes in scoring a paltry 2.19 goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the sixth-lowest in the league. They don't pose too much of a threat on offense to Saros, who has allowed three goals or fewer in seven of his last 10 starts.

High-Priced Skaters

Nathan MacKinnon ($9,800): With a slate-high 3.72 implied goal total, the Colorado Avalanche are a clear target tonight versus the Edmonton Oilers. This matchup is set to have plenty of offense with a 6.5 over/under, which isn't a surprise considering both teams are in the top 12 for the most goals scored per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations. The Oilers' defense is a bit lacking this season, allowing 2.60 goals in the same situations, which is in the bottom half of the league.

MacKinnon leads one of the league's top offenses and comes in with 16 NHL points and 49 shots on goal in his last 10 games, both of which are the highest on the team in that span. He has three multi-point games over his last five, and that is the level of production we can expect from MacKinnon on a nightly basis.

Kevin Fiala ($6,800): The Minnesota Wild have the second-highest (3.22) offense per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations and are always a great option to consider. They have a solid matchup versus the Vegas Golden Knights, which could turn into a back and forth scoring environment, as we have another matchup with both teams in the top 12 for the most goals scored per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations.

Fiala skates on the second forward line and the second power-play unit, coming in with a very solid 11 NHL points and 36 shots on goal over his last 10 games. With a solid offensive role and a high shot volume, Fiala is viable in all formats tonight given the strong game environment.

Value Skaters

Craig Smith ($5,700): With Patrice Bergeron out for the Boston Bruins, Smith has stepped up his offensive game to fill the missing production. Smith has 11 NHL points and 27 shots on goal over the last 10 games, which is surprisingly strong for a player on the third forward line and the second power-play unit.

That level of production can continue tonight versus the Montreal Canadiens, who are in the bottom 10 for the most goals allowed (2.89) and Corsi Against (57.63), both per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations. This is a great offensive matchup for the Bruins, who are holding a 3.53 implied goal total, which is the third-highest on the slate.

Evgeni Dadonov ($5,000): With a number of injuries for the Golden Knights, Dadonov has added a bit of offense to his game. Tallying four goals over his last five games, Dadonov is the highest scoring player on the Golden Knights, a surprise to many. As noted above, this matchup against the Wild is very fantasy-friendly and should have plenty of scoring on both sides. A new role on the first power-play unit will continue to give Dadonov plenty of fantasy upside, who is still only $5,000 tonight.
