3 NHL FanDuel Studs to Target on Wednesday 10/20/21

In any daily fantasy lineup, spending up in any daily fantasy lineup is how to get the superstars and the highest upside players in your lineup.

In NHL DFS, it’s different from paying up in sports like NBA or NFL. Someone can be one of the highest salaried players at his position and put up a total dud of a performance, and paying that much for him would be a huge mistake. Let’s make sure we are paying up in the right spots when building our lineups tonight.

Wednesday night has just two games on the NHL slate. Let's take a look at a few studs to pad our bottom line.

Sean Couturier, Center, Philadelphia Flyers

FanDuel Salary: $6,600

It was a coin flip between Sean Couturier and Patrice Bergeron. While one cannot go wrong with either, the feeling is that the Philadelphia Flyers could have a little more success than expected against a Boston team that is playing just its second game of the season.

The matchup is an interesting one because of how well Boston has played behind Jeremy Swayman. At some point, does that bubble burst a little? Couturier needs to step things up a bit with just two shots in his first two games. He does have two assists, but this is a Wednesday night game under the spotlights. There should be an opportunity.

It helps that Claude Giroux is on his flank when it comes to the power play. Do not be surprised if the Flyers' man advantage strikes at least once on Wednesday.

David Pastrnak, Wing, Boston Bruins

FanDuel Salary: $8,300

Could this be a dream matchup with David Pastrnak firing pucks at Carter Hart? No, Martin Jones is starting instead on Wednesday night. Jones has a .896 save percentage in the last three seasons with a negative goals-saved above average during that span.

David Pastrnak had four shots on goal with seven attempts on Saturday against the Dallas Stars. The chances expect to be there on Wednesday, as well. Pastrnak had four scoring chances and a couple of the high-danger variety.

The three highest projected players are the top Boston line on Wednesday as seen here. Philadelphia does have Rasmus Ristolainen making his season debut on defense, but he likely will get shielded against the Boston offense.

The "Perfection Line" is the most obvious stack on Wednesday with Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron.

Charlie McAvoy, Defenseman, Boston Bruins

FanDuel Salary: $6,400

Charlie McAvoy had five shots on goal Saturday versus the Stars. He had several quality scoring chances and even hit the outside of the post. The expected power-play time should benefit McAvoy against a bottom-third penalty kill on Wednesday night.

The blueliner should be heavily rostered because he does see first power-play unit duties, and his role is of a player on the ice for 25-plus minutes a night. McAvoy is more than young enough to handle the load and has a quick release of a shot that goaltenders have trouble reading.

With Matthew Grzelcyk not stealing top power-play ice time from McAvoy anymore, McAvoy has risen to third at the position in our projections on Wednesday.
