3 NHL FanDuel Studs to Target on Monday 5/24/21

In NHL DFS, it’s different from paying up in sports like NBA or NFL. Someone can be one of the highest salaried players at his position and put up a total dud of a performance, and paying that much for him would be a huge mistake. Let’s make sure we are paying up in the right spots when building our lineups tonight.
Monday night brings us five more games on the NHL DFS playoff slate. Let's take a look at a few studs.
Connor McDavid, Center, Edmonton Oilers
FanDuel Salary: $8,600
It has been a nightmare for Connor McDavid so far as the Edmonton Oilers find themselves down three games to none to the Winnipeg Jets.
The center of the Oilers looked a little more like himself early in Game 3 with three assists, four shots on goal, three scoring chances, and two blocked shots. That was a good deal better than the previous two efforts where McDavid had a mere 11.2 FanDuel points combined (34.1 in Game 3).
Winnipeg could not contain the Edmonton center in every game of this series as, to his credit, McDavid keeps making adjustments. Expect more of what happened in Game 3 to occur in Game 4. The Oilers have nothing to lose and have to play at a frenetic pace.
Auston Matthews ($8,500) has eight goals in nine games against the Montreal Canadiens this season. Also, do not forget about Sidney Crosby ($8,000) against the New York Islanders tonight.
Mark Stone, Wing, Vegas Golden Knights
FanDuel Salary: $7,600
Mark Stone had one moment in Game 4 against the Minnesota Wild on Saturday but it was some moment. He rushed past what felt like 35 skaters short-handed and potted a pivotal goal which led Vegas to a 3-1 series lead.
That goal paved the way to a 17.2 point FanDuel night. Other than blocking one shot, Stone did not have to do much else to hit value. This is why there is some risk in rostering the winger tonight with so many games on the slate. However, why not? Again, see if Max Pacioretty ($7,700) plays first. That being said, Stone provides matchup problems against Minnesota when the winger wants to turn defense into offense.
There may be a few game-time decisions tonight so be careful. Jonathan Huberdeau ($7,900) stands out as an alternative from Florida and has been consistent the past couple of games.
Kris Letang, Defenseman, Pittsburgh Penguins
FanDuel Salary: $6,400
The risk is very high with Kris Letang on Monday night. Pittsburgh could score four or five goals easily but will Letang figure in on any of them?
Letang has only had one dominant game in the series but what a night it was. He had a goal, two assists, and was just all over the ice in Game 3. The feeling is that Pittsburgh will show a good deal more urgency in Game 5 as they try to push the pace. Letang will be a big contributor to that increase.
Victor Hedman ($6,600) should have the highest upside but may or may not be 100% for the Tampa Bay Lightning. No one is going to know honestly. Morgan Rielly ($5,400) is a risky play from Toronto and do not expect any goals -- just assists, shots, and a couple of blocks perhaps.
