NHL Daily Fantasy Helper: Monday 5/10/21
The Winnipeg Jets and Mark Scheifele have a soft matchup at home and still have plenty to play for. Who else should you build around tonight?

NHL DFS is similar to MLB in terms of how you build lineups, view stacking, and value players.

Two main points to always focus on in NHL DFS are what lines the players are on and making sure the goalies you are rostering are confirmed as the starters. Two of the best resources for that are LeftWingLock.com or DailyFaceOff.com. That is where you can find updated forward and power-play lines for each team, along with which goalies are confirmed as the starters.

Let's jump in to take a look at today's slate and some players to consider for your lineups.

Goalie to Target

Jake Allen ($7,300): The fourth and final spot in the North Division is still undecided and the Montreal Canadiens are the team in the driver's seat. If they pick up at least one point tonight, they will clinch that final spot, giving them plenty to play for. This is not something we see from many teams at this point in the season, so we'll turn to Allen, who has been confirmed as the starter tonight. The Canadiens are -108 at home, and we should be in for a very close, lower-scoring game. Six of the seven matchups between these two teams this season have hit the under, according to KillerSports.

High-Priced Skaters

Mark Scheifele ($7,400): The Winnipeg Jets have lost eight of their last 10 games and are trying to hold onto the third seed in the North Division. The Jets can begin to turn things around tonight in a soft matchup versus the Vancouver Canucks, who are one of the worst defensive teams in the league. This season, the Canucks hold a 60.44 Corsi Against (Total Shot Attempts Allowed) per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the worst in the league. They are also allowing the fifth-most (2.78) goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations.

If there was any time for the Jets to shore things up, it would be now, at home, versus a weak defense. That means we look to Scheifele, who comes in with 9 NHL points and 22 shots on goal in his last 10 games. His role on the first forward line and the first power-play is secure, so look to him for some safety tonight.

Joe Pavelski ($7,800): Even though both the Dallas Stars and Chicago Blackhawks are eliminated from the playoffs, we can still look to this game for plenty of fantasy production. This won't be anything new for this matchup, since we have seen the over hit in each of the last five games this season. Chicago comes into this game allowing the sixth-most (2.75) goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, so it's no surprise we've seen the over hit a number of times.

The Stars have a 3.48 implied goal tonight, which is the second-highest on the slate, something that should cause them to be very popular. Pavelski should be firmly in the mix with the Stars hitting that implied goal total, as he leads the team with 11 NHL points over his last 10 games.

Value Skaters

Pavel Zacha ($4,600): The Philadelphia Flyers are the worst defensive team in the league, allowing 2.97 goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations. With both teams out of the playoffs, we could be in for a looser, free-flowing game of hockey, giving us plenty of fantasy potential. I'll buy into that upside with a player like Zacha, who is under $5,000, has 9 NHL points, 22 shots goal on goal in his last 10 games, and is on the first power-play unit.

Mackenzie Weegar ($4,300): Weegar has a super safe floor of points on a nightly basis, as is shown by his 21 shots on goal and 22 blocked shots over his last 10 games. He is a cheaper cash game option, but also carries a bit of upside since he is on the second power-play unit for the Florida Panthers.
