When playing NHL DFS -- much like MLB DFS -- stacking is key. Having multiple players from the same team, who correlate together, can give your lineup upside and help you maximize potential points.

You can roster up to four players from the same team in NHL, and you should look to have players from the same forward line or power-play unit together. Shared ice time is the key, as it will maximize their ability to contribute to real-life goals with each other, ultimately leading to more fantasy points for us.

Generally, we don't see late scratches in the NHL, and the team's lines are confirmed at practice or before the game. Two of the best resources for that are LeftWingLock.com or DailyFaceOff.com. That is where you can find updated forward and power-play lines for each team.

St. Louis Blues

The St. Louis Blues are a massive -220 home favorite tonight and should be a popular option on this five-game slate.

The Blues are tied for first place in the NHL and face a weak Anaheim Ducks team, putting them in a good spot for all formats. A 3.20 implied goal total -- the second-highest on the slate -- is where we find the Blues tonight, and they should not only be able to reach that but exceed it, given how well they've been playing in recent games. They have scored three goals or more in nine of their last 10 games, and frankly, their prices don't reflect that. Their most expensive skater is only $6.6K, so they don't put too much strain on roster construction overall.

Their top power-play unit has two skaters on the first forward line and two on the second forward line. It's split down the middle -- so no full correlation -- which could be a true coin flip for stacking. Ryan O'Reilly ($6,300) and David Perron ($6,600) are the two on the second line, and they come in with 11 points in their last five games, compared to the only five points from the two players on the first forward line. Pair them with defender Alex Pietrangelo ($6,500), who is having a resurgent season and has posted 4 points, 14 shots, and 10 blocked shots in his last five games.

New Rangers/New York Islanders Game Stack

We are going to take a look at this game specifically from a game stack perspective, so let's jump in.

I think either team is solid for a tournament stack, and you would side with the New York Islanders if you are looking for cash games, but the game stack is where I want to go. Whenever the Rangers and Islanders play, we should always be expecting plenty of goals. Over their last 12 games, seven of them have hit the over, according to KillerSports, putting is in a good spot for some scoring. The Rangers and Islanders are sitting at last and second to last in Corsi Against (shot attempts allowed), along with the third-most and the sixth-most High-Danger-Scoring-Chances allowed per 60 minutes. Plenty of shots attempts should lead to a very fantasy-friendly environment for both teams.

When it comes to a game stack, it can often be about finding which players fit together since you can't pay up for both top lines. For the Rangers, their best player is Artemi Panarin ($8,500), who is on the second line with Ryan Strome ($6,300) and Jesper Fast ($4,000). You can also add Tony DeAngelo ($5,100), who is on the first power-play with Panarin and Strome.

For the Islanders, their first forward line stays together on the first power-play and isn't too expensive. Mathew Barzal ($6,400), Josh Bailey ($4,500), and Anthony Beauvillier ($4,100) don't break the bank, along with first power-play defender Devon Toews ($3,600).

Washington Capitals

The Washington Capitals hold the highest-implied goal total (3.45), making them a clear option tonight.

One of the best teams in the league in terms of their record, the Capitals are the third-highest scoring team and one of the ideal fantasy teams to target on any given night. We see them at home as a -140 favorite against the Carolina Hurricanes in what should be a great game. Over their last five games, 14 of their 29 goals have come from their top-six forwards, the clear spot for stacking.

As with most teams, their highest upside and most consistent players are the top forwards, and we actually see Jakub Vrana ($5,400) leading the team with four goals in their last five games. A small sample size, but he is now on the first power-play unit with Alex Ovechkin ($8,700), T.J. Oshie ($7,000), and John Carlson ($7,100).
