When playing NHL DFS -- much like MLB DFS -- stacking is key. Having multiple players from the same team, who correlate together, can give your lineup upside and help you maximize potential points.

You can roster up to four players from the same team in NHL, and you should look to have players from the same forward line or power-play unit together. Shared ice time is the key, as it will maximize their ability to contribute to real-life goals with each other, ultimately leading to more fantasy points for us.

Generally, we don't see late scratches in the NHL, and the team's lines are confirmed at practice or before the game. Two of the best resources for that are LeftWingLock.com or DailyFaceOff.com. That is where you can find updated forward and power-play lines for each team.

New York Rangers

The highest implied goal total of the slate comes from the New York Rangers, making them a clear target for fantasy points tonight.

With Mika Zibanejad still out for the Rangers, their top line is a bit cheaper to stack, which is helpful when we have only two games on the slate and are dealing with limited options. A 3.55 implied goal total is what the Rangers are boasting tonight, which shouldn't be a surprise given the fact they are facing off against a weak Detroit Red Wings lineup.

For the most part, these two teams are somewhat similar in the overall quality. They both allow a ton of shot attempts, too many High-Danger shots, and take too many penalties. This is why the game has an over/under of 6.5 compared to the other game, which is set at 5.5.

With that said, the home team with the second line change is the spot to target, which starts with the top line of Artemi Panarin ($7,700), Ryan Strome ($5,400), and Jesper Fast ($3,700). Fast isn't on either power-play, so you can swap him for Kaapo Kakko ($4,800) or defender Tony DeAngelo ($4,600), who are both on the top power-play unit.

Edmonton Oilers

The Edmonton Oilers have an implied goal total at 2.95 -- which is over half of a goal lower compared to the Rangers -- but should we consider them as the top option?

There is no doubt that Connor McDavid ($8,900) and Leon Draisaitl ($8,800) are the two best players on this slate -- it's not even close -- and bring the highest potential upside in almost any matchup. They are also the two most expensive skaters, though, which makes things difficult when we have so few values options on this slate.

They are on the top forward line together, along with Sam Gagner ($3,000), who is the absolute minimum salary tonight. Gagner's salary brings us the desperately needed salary relief if we are trying to get McDavid and Draisaitl into the same lineup. Oscar Klefbom ($5,000) would be the defender to add to this stack since he is also on the first power-play unit and brings a consistent floor of points on a nightly basis.

Getting the Rangers' top stack and the Oilers' top stack into one lineup tonight is doable -- it just requires a bit of creativity when it comes to roster construction.
