NHL Daily Fantasy Helper: Tuesday 1/15/19
A good chunk of you played daily fantasy football this year, and I'd be willing to bet a significant portion have also tried out daily fantasy basketball and baseball. But hockey? Hockey?
To help, let's take a look at some goalies, high-priced skaters, and lower-priced players to target for today's slate.
Goalie to Target
Sergei Bobrovsky ($8,300): The Columbus Blue Jackets are projected to start Bobrovsky against the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday night. This carries risk because of Bobrovsky's numbers -- which include 18 goals allowed in his last 5 starts while being pulled twice. However, New Jersey has not fared well against Columbus, as they have lost five straight contests to them. Just last month, Bobrovsky stopped 29 of 30 shots in a win in New Jersey. New Jersey yields 3.87 goals per game on the road and is expected to start Keith Kinkaid. Kinkaid has struggled mightily of late, winning only one relief appearance and losing all four starts. For other options, you can see who starts for the New York Islanders and possibly the Carolina Hurricanes (both goalies are $7,700 or less).
Tyler Seguin ($7,900): Seguin has been awfully quiet in his last couple games but especially against the Philadelphia Flyers. He did have one assist but tallied just one high-danger scoring chance. Tampa Bay figures to give up a few more of those on Tuesday night though. They yield 3.22 goals per game on the road and just allowed the Islanders to score five against them. The concern is Dallas has struggled to score goals (nine in their last five contests), however, if a team was to break out it would likely be against Tampa, who has been allowing around 30 shots per game in their last five and the sixth-most high-danger scoring chances over the last month. Mark Scheifele ($7,600) and Aleksander Barkov ($7,300) could be good secondary options this evening.
Filip Forsberg ($7,300): Forsberg is a prime tournament option against the Washington Capitals. Aside from Forsberg's ability to put the puck in the net (18 goals in 30 games), he averages over a point a game in his career on Tuesdays. There is also the fact that Washington traded him for Martin Erat. It seems the winger never forgets that one and has had some of his best games against his former team. Washington is also not rested after playing St. Louis last night. The great news tonight is plenty of options exist from the wing position. Nikita Kucherov ($9,200) and Artemi Panarin ($7,700) are in great spots, and particularly Panarin. The Columbus forward averages almost two real-world points per game against the Devils in his last six games against them.
Oskar Sundqvist ($3,600): Sundqvist is seeing more and more ice time for St. Louis, which is welcome news for the young center. He played 16 minutes against Washington and is now seeing over a minute more, on average, in recent games. Increased shot volume and chances have shot up with the opportunities as well. Tonight, he faces the Islanders who allow 31.1 shots per game (14th in the league). There should be enough chances for the center to create value at this price. He has real-world points in two of his last three games and a plus matchup against Washington should be reason enough to roster him. Other options include Pavel Zacha ($3,600) and Henrik Borgstrom ($3,600).
Brandon Pirri ($3,800): Pirri is an automatic plug-and-play as he's averaging over 18 FanDuel points a night for Vegas. He is expected to play against Winnipeg and even saw a bump up in ice time, notching 16 and 18 minutes in the last two starts as his power play time also inched up. He had 11 shots in those 2 games. This will likely be a chalk value play but one that has to be in your lineups. The Rangers' Jesper Fast ($3,800) and the Jackets' Anthony Duclair ($3,400) could be nice value plays given their ability to use their speed on the wings in plus matchups tonight.
