Olivier Vernon reportedly sprains ankle at Giants' practice

New York Giants edge player Olivier Vernon (ankle) suffered a sprained ankle and "deep bruise high up on his ankle" during Sunday's practice, reports NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

What It Means:

Vernon had to be carted off the field but X-rays came back negative and there's an outside chance he could be ready for the Giants' opener in two weeks. The 27-year-old has averaged 8.2 sacks over the past five seasons.

If he plays all 16 games, numberFire's models project Vernon for 47.0 tackles, 9.3 sacks, and 2.1 forced fumbles this season.
