Sam Darnold expected to start for Jets on Friday
New York Jets first-round quarterback Sam Darnold is expected to start and play at least the first half of Friday's third preseason game against the New York Giants, according to ESPN's Josina Anderson
What It Means:
Darnold will be followed up by Teddy Bridgewater, who has generated plenty of trade speculation since the Jets' last exhibition. Anderson added that Darnold, Bridgewater, and Josh McCown are all "in contention to start", but the 3rd overall pick is the heavy favorite to open the year under center.
numberFire's models project Darnold for 3,616.6 passing yards, 19.13 touchdowns, and 14.7 interceptions as a rookie, with another 239.9 rushing yards and 1.88 touchdowns on the ground.
