Royce Freeman on track to be Broncos' 'primary back'
Denver Broncos third-round running back Royce Freeman will be the team's "primary back before too long," believes ESPN's Jeff Legwold.
"At minimum he splits carries, and I think he will be the primary back before too long," Legwold said. "Now, that might not mean 250 carries, but he's going to get work and already blocks well enough to play on third down and in some of the open formations. And he'll get red zone chances, too." Devontae Booker is expected to see some work, but Freeman could force his way into more of a bellcow role with continued strong preseason play. He racked up 38 yards and a touchdown in the opener.
numberFire's models believe Freeman will rush 125.5 times for 538.6 rushing yards and 2.68 touchdowns as a rookie, in addition to 35.1 catches for 278.1 yards and 1.06 receiving scores. He's the RB34 in our preseason rankings.
