49ers waive Jarryd Hayne after seven weeks
The San Francisco 49ers waived running back/kick returner Jarryd Hayne.
The former rugby star from Australia who is a 2015 rookie, Hayne was inactive last week and had already been demoted from top duties on punt returns. Even with top running back Carlos Hyde out, the 49ers decided they were more comfortable promoting Kendall Gaskins to back up Reggie Bush and Mike Davis. Hayne has impressed in some capacity, and could draw interest on waivers.
On just eight NFL carries, Hayne produced a -0.17 Rushing Net Expected Points (NEP). The 49ers' special teams unit ranked just 24th in the league in Total Special Teams NEP, however.
