Cardinals releasing one-time Pro Bowler Tyrann Mathieu
According to Fox Sports' Jay Glazer, the Arizona Cardinals have informed defensive back Tyrann Mathieu of his release.
The team was working toward a pay cut for Mathieu, but the Honey Badger didn't want any part in that. The team ultimately decided to release him, saving them at least $4.8 million toward the salary cap. At 25, Mathieu's versatility will attract many on the open market, with the New York Giants (because of ties to DC James Bettcher) as an early candidate.
Mathieu led the NFL in snaps while starting all 16 games a year ago. He produced 66 tackles, 7 passes defensed, 2 interceptions, 1 forced fumble and 1 sack.
