Matthew Stafford benched by Lions in third quarter
The Detroit Lions benched quarterback Matthew Stafford in the third quarter of their Week 5 blowout at the hands of the Arizona Cardinals.
Stafford threw three interceptions on the day, completing 20 of 32 passes for 188 yards and a touchdown. The turnovers were easy conversions into scores by the dominant Cardinals' offense. Stafford floundered all game, and the team gave up four turnovers in the first half alone. Dan Orlovsky relieved him.
Stafford was 31st in Passing Net Expected Points (NEP) among quarterbacks with at least 50 opportunities coming into Week 5. His -0.03 per-play Passing NEP is a career low for Stafford.
